Job Description
The substance abuse counselor reports to Torey Morris
Duties and responsibilities:
The substance abuse counselor will provide assessments for individuals entering the SAIOP. The counselor will provide group and individual counseling to individuals in the SAIOP, write ISPs for clients attending the program, write discharge plans, provide appropriate referrals to clients for other needed services, submit Service Authorization Requests to insurance providers, enter documentation for each client daily and quarterly into the electronic health record, and provide emergency services to program individuals on an on-call basis as needed. The substance abuse counselor will provide psychoeducation to clients and encouragement to continue in their recovery. The substance abuse counselor will design and implement group therapy sessions and document these sessions daily for everyone that attends the group sessions.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
The substance abuse counselor must have:
-A master’s degree sufficient for licensure
-Licensure as a substance abuse provider (preferred), LPC, or CSAC
-The ability to write and implement substance abuse curriculum
-Experience with substance abuse treatment
-The ability to use an electronic health record.
